Adolescents

Children between age group of 10 to 19 years are known as Adolescent. It’s a period of journey from childhood to adulthood. During this period adolescents undergo tremendous physical (including reproductive), mental and psychosocial changes.

These are most important, formative years having lifelong effects on them.

Majority of the adolescent parents are also passing through middle age and are struggling with the career, sandwiched between children and grandparents.

Incomplete brain development and high peer influence make adolescents vulnerable to high risk behaviours like, Rash driving, Group violence, Substance abuse, Sexual experimentation, Self harm, Running away from home etc. Thoughtful and positive parenting promotes strong Parent-Teenager bonding and has been proved to be the BIGGEST PROTECTIVE FACTOR against high risk behaviour.

In the module of adolescent parenting apart from training parents in the field of adolescent physiology and psychology , we try to discuss with parents regarding the principal components of it like- how to respond to adolescent’s need, establishing emotional connectedness with them, helping them to become independent, accepting them as they are , nurturing self-esteem etc.
